Advanced Education & Innovation
"We must prepare all Albertans
Leading the Way
Alberta is well-established as a leader in the fields of nanotechnology and biomedicine. Pioneering scientific methods and research, such as the Edmonton Protocol to treat diabetes, and the use of nanotechnology to increase yields of in-situ oil recovery, have helped to position Alberta as a leader in innovation. Continuing to support and expand research in these areas, will ensure long-term success for our province.
Albertans must continue to enjoy an environment that promotes and sustains new
ideas and discoveries through entrepreneurship and innovation. Alberta’s education
and innovation system must be open for the world to share in our success through
investments and exchanges of new initiatives, capital and markets. We see a future
where Alberta’s post-secondary institutions are key economic drivers for our
province and we further export our expertise in the delivery of advanced education.
Alberta’s post-secondary and innovation system is an engine of opportunity
for Alberta’s future, but not all Albertans have equal access to gain and apply
skills and knowledge to strengthen Alberta’s economy. In addition to historically
underrepresented and vulnerable groups, up to two-thirds of academically qualified
post-secondary applicants in Alberta are not offered admission due to infrastructure
and professional constraints. 1 Alberta strives to become a destination for learning
and entrepreneurship, and opportunities exist to improve social and industry
awareness of the benefits of Alberta’s internationalization.
