Great ideas sparked excellent discussion on the challenges facing Alberta's economy; & the feedback is of great assistance as I do all I can to help this new gov’t find its fiscal way for the good of our entire province!
My Progressive Conservative colleagues & I are working hard to find solutions to the issues that matter most to Albertans. One of those issues—no doubt—is the state of the province’s finances. The NDP gov’t is not to blame for the price of oil; but they are responsible for their misguided policies. The Finance Minister has hinted that this year’s deficit could top $10 billion—but he could not bring himself to say the number out loud. The NDP have increased personal & corporate taxes, introduced a $3 billion carbon tax, created damaging uncertainty re: royalties, & have demonstrated no spending restraint whatsoever. They are racking up historic debt levels ($50 Billion in 5 years)—with no plan to ever pay it back. These policies are killing jobs, driving away investment, & hurting our credit rating. NDP policies are making a bad situation much worse; & the gov’t needs to correct their course now—if they want to protect the Alberta Advantage that are so proud of.
Our Progressive Conservative Caucus is bringing forth pragmatic, common-sense solutions: something sorely lacking from both the gov’t & the official opposition. Unlike the parties to the left & right, PC’s are focused on Albertans--rather than political ideology. Our PC caucus promotes jobs & economic growth—with smart, fiscally conservative policies—while having the courage to compassionately tackle complex social issues.
