OUR PC MLA’S ARE ENGAGING WITH ALBERTANS!
Our PC caucus has launched the first document of its kind--“ENGAGE”—which I was honoured to table in the Legislature. ENGAGE starts the conversation about how to build a better future for AB; & it is our intent that this will encourage AB’s to get involved & identify new ways of doing things. Please visit abpcmla.ca/engageI eagerly anticipate your feedback to this living document, which is designed to evolve—with your feedback!
Thanks to Bridlewood, Woodcreek, & Evergreen Easter Egg Hunt organizers & participants!
I appreciate the amazing insights gained via SAIT’s Petroleum Industry Certification Program.
Congratulations to Prab Gill, the new PC MLA for Calgary Greenway: welcome to our team!
Jobs, the Economy, & our Team
Our PC team is focusing on issues that are important to AB’s. We are working hard to ensure the questions, concerns, & fears of AB’s will be heard & acted upon by the new NDP gov’t; & our promise is to remain committed to providing realistic, common sense solutions. As AB’s economic outlook worsens & the anticipated budget deficit could climb over $11 billion, we will fight to have the gov’t restrain spending, create jobs, & develop a credible debt repayment plan. With job losses topping 100,000 in the past year in AB alone, the NDP’s only solution is to double down on measures that have already proven ineffective in creating jobs. It’s critical that this gov’t abandon its ideological agenda in favour of real solutions that produce tangible results!
Anniversary of Premier Klein’s Passing
Three years ago, AB lost one of its best friends & advocates--& a terrible void was created in the leadership of our province. “Ralph”—as he was known by all—served for nine years as Mayor of Calgary, three years in the provincial cabinet, & fourteen years as Premier. During his time, tough decisions needed to be made; & difficult steps had to be taken. Premier Klein never shirked from these responsibilities; & always owned up to the actions of his gov’t—apologizing with humility & sincerity every time it was appropriate to do so—a rare but invaluable attribute for a politician.
Ralph was the first Premier I ever served with—starting in 2004--& I learned a great deal from him. I will always appreciate that when I spearheaded Bill 201: “The Smoke-free Places Act”, he completely had my back. It was my first private member’s bill, & it was very controversial, but it was the right thing to do; & when all was said & done, I was humbled that he & I were named two of the greatest “Albertans of Influence” that year—an honour I will forever treasure. Premier Klein was instrumental in my choice to seek elected office in the first place: I truly respected him for many of the things that he had done; & he appreciated the fact that I had ideas on how we could do many things differently. As an elected member of Ralph’s team, I will always will be grateful for the opportunity to have worked at his side. Even though it has been nearly a decade since he left office, his legacy lives on everywhere in AB. He taught us so much about leadership & being honest with AB’s; & these are lessons that we would all do well to remember. We will never forget you, Ralph!
