Culture & Tourism
“What Alberta can offer is different from anywhere else in the world. Where else can one attend a rodeo, go to a museum, watch hockey and scale a mountain all in one day?”
Regional Strategic Partnerships
Canadian Badlands Ltd. is the largest cooperative partnership of regional municipalities in Alberta. Consisting of 62 municipal governments, the group collaborates in strategic tourism development and supports the region’s growth as a whole.
Alberta has a story to tell the world – our shared history, striking landscapes and diverse communities create a vibrant and captivating destination. Sustainable funding to support and promote our cultural industries allows Albertans to share our story with the world. Alberta’s culture and tourism workers must be beneficiaries and full participants in a modern and diversified economy. The success of Alberta’s culture and tourism industry is a testament to our strength both as a province and as a people. As we look to continue diversifying our economy, culture and tourism should continue to lead the way.
Investment in the tourism industry currently provides Alberta with a return on investment of 19:1 . Both culture and tourism are examples of real economic diversification and a source of strength in the Alberta economy. The industry employs thousands of Albertans in renewable, green, people-focused jobs, and is a driver for many other employers and industries across the province. Alberta has successfully hosted many large-scale sporting, arts and cultural events. However, due to our geographic isolation and relatively small population, it is an ongoing challenge to bring people to our province and get our message to the world.
