This is a Progressive Conservative motion in the Legislature, which reads:
Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to affirm its commitment to allowing parents the choice of educational delivery for their children, including home, charter, private, francophone, separate or public education programs.
What is a Wraparound School?
A wraparound school provides community services for children, families, teachers and community members under one roof. These schools act as community hubs, and promote the development of stable, healthy neighbourhoods.
In order for Alberta to remain a dynamic and progressive province, it is critical that we have an education system capable of training and preparing our future leaders. We need a framework that allows collaborative discussion between all levels of government and includes students, parents and teachers to have the best education system possible.
Alberta’s strength and drive is evident in that we are one of the youngest and most educated provinces in Canada . Government has historically provided substantial support in terms of both funding and the availability of a wide spectrum of choice in education. This has resulted in the creation of an education system that is highly regarded both nationally and internationally. But we cannot ignore falling test scores, and we must take steps to advance the modern education system we need. We aspire to create an environment where we can provide the best possible teacher in every classroom in Alberta.

- Establish more wraparound schools as a means of using government funding in the most efficient way possible by providing comprehensive community services within the physical infrastructure used for education.
- Implement recommendations from the Excellence in Teaching panel to ensure teaching students remains the focus of the education system.
- Recommit to literacy and numeracy training from the earliest years of education.
