“The NDP government told us there was $1.8 billion in additional spending,” said Ric McIver, interim PC leader. “MLA Richard Starke asked the Minister of Finance to tell the House in detail how much additional spending we were being asked to approve in interim supply measures. This morning, the NDP government told us about $682 million in new budget spending, but we’re still asking for a clear answer: what about the other $1.1 billion in government spending? What is it for? Albertans want and need answers.”
MLA Manmeet Bhullar, PC Caucus finance critic, noted that Albertans are being told “we’ll find out in the fall how this will all be paid for. Their lack of answers or any concrete details is alarming. Do they not know – or understand – how deficit financing and responsible budgeting works?” concluded Bhullar.
