“The NDP continues to mismanage taxpayer dollars and Albertans have had enough,” said Progressive Conservative Caucus Leader and Finance critic Ric McIver. “In just two years, the NDP’s reckless spending has left our province with a deficit of over $20 billion with no plan to pay any of it back. That is why the entire Progressive Conservative caucus chose to represent Albertans and vote against this budget.”
Over the past year, the NDP have spent over $10 million to promote their unpopular carbon tax and nearly $36 million on changing lightbulbs in homes across the province. Funding for those two programs alone is more than what Budget 2017 allocates for the Family and Community Safety program, the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate and the Indigenous Women’s Initiative combined.
“Albertans expect their government to spend on programs that are essential to our communities. The NDP spin doctors are working overtime to push the false narrative that Albertans have to choose between out of control spending or deep cuts to vital services,” said McIver. “But Albertans and this PC caucus know better. The government doesn’t need to run huge deficits to provide programs and services that are important to your family. We will continue to advocate for Alberta families, because in passing Budget 2017, the NDP are refusing to.”
