“I am disappointed, but not surprised, that this government went out of its way to provide Albertans with incomplete information on how its Climate Leadership Plan will impact the provincial economy. The document released yesterday contained no details on how the government arrived at its assessment or how this version is more accurate than information previously obtained through freedom of information requests. Simply asking us to trust them, while providing virtually no data or evidence to support their claims, is an insult and Albertans have every right to be upset.
We have heard promises of how the Climate Leadership Plan will grow and diversify our economy. The truth is the information released by the government shows that the carbon tax, along with other elements of the Plan, will in fact shrink our economy’s growth.
The Climate Leadership Plan in its totality is set to cost tens of billions in taxpayer dollars and the upcoming carbon tax will take an additional $3 billion annually from the pockets of hardworking Albertans. Given these direct costs, it’s not a stretch to believe that the Plan will cost thousands of jobs and further hurt our already struggling economy. Albertans deserve the truth about the economic impacts of this policy instead of more political spin from this government.”
