“This is the second time in less than six months that this Minister has chosen to protect the interests of Big Government and Big Labour over those of Alberta taxpayers,” said Progressive Conservative Interim Leader and MLA for Calgary-Hays, Ric McIver. “This decision is political patronage of the highest order and the Minister should immediately explain herself by releasing the business cases for all options that were under consideration.”
Earlier this year, Minister Hoffman rejected an AHS proposal to save an estimated $200 million by outsourcing hospital laundry services, despite a $10.9 billion provincial budget deficit this year alone. Today’s lab services announcement proves that this Minister has no interest in being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars.
“Healthcare costs will skyrocket when this government takes control of provincial lab services,”
said Progressive Conservative Health critic and MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster, Richard Starke. “Alberta taxpayers have a right to know why the Minister has chosen the most expensive option available to her and what she plans on taking over next.”
