“A complete overhaul of Alberta’s curriculum, across all subject areas, is a huge undertaking and we will be watching carefully to ensure the NDP government gets this one right,” said Progressive Conservative Education Critic and MLA for Calgary-North West, Sandra Jansen. “This government has a weak track record when it comes to meaningful public consultation, which is why it’s important that they provide more detail on who they plan to include in the consultation process and how they intend to incorporate feedback into the new curriculum.”
Over the course of the summer, Albertans are encouraged to provide the Progressive Conservative caucus with their thoughts on the curriculum redesign through the ENGAGE initiative. This feedback will hold the government to account and ensure everyone’s voice has a chance to be heard.
“Ultimately, parents and students are the most important stakeholders in our education system and they must play a central role in these consultations,” said MLA Jansen. “Our PC caucus will continue to advocate for parents and families, and ensure their perspectives are included in the curriculum redesign.”
