“We’ve always recognized that a prosperous energy industry in Alberta benefits all of Canada – not just Alberta’s portion of the 280,000-plus energy sector jobs in Canada,” said interim PC Leader Ric McIver. “We’re pleased the Canadian Energy Strategy recognizes the need to open and develop new markets and invest in new innovation and technology,” he added.
“We also recognize and support environmentally-responsible development of our oilsands and the energy industry as a whole,” said McIver. “However, in our efforts to be a world leader we need to be careful not to harm our energy industry for years to come with regulatory and economic burdens that make it impossible for companies to continue operating and creating the jobs and prosperity we so often take for granted.”
PC Caucus continues to advocate to protect Albertans’ jobs, and today called on the NDP government to do far more to support and promote our energy industry, rather than pursue an ideological and ill-timed royalty review and an unclear emissions reduction strategy.
PC Caucus looks forward to discussing in more detail the implementation and timing of the Alberta portion of the Canadian Energy Strategy in the Legislature this fall, McIver concluded.
