“Today, we mourn the passing of our friend and former colleague, Len Mitzel. Len was a man of great integrity and a dedicated public servant. He served as the MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat from 2004-2012, where he was as a strong and proud advocate for his constituents. During his time in the Legislative Assembly, Len served as Deputy Chair of Committees, Chair of the Legislative Offices Committee and was a member of the Select Special Ethics Commissioner Search Committee.
His time in public service resulted in a number of distinctive awards to honour his community service, such as the125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and the Alberta Centennial Medal.
On behalf of the Progressive Conservative caucus, I offer Len’s wife, children and grandchildren our deepest condolences during this difficult time. Len will always have our respect and admiration and we thank you for sharing him with Alberta.”
