“The Progressive Conservative caucus accepts all recommendations contained in the Auditor General’s report and we thank him for his work on this important matter,” said Drysdale. “Ensuring Alberta has adequate school facilities for our children is of the utmost importance and something that previous Progressive Conservative governments cared deeply about, which is why we undertook such an ambitious school build program.”
“From 2005 to 2015, Alberta’s population grew by more than 88,000 people each year, many of whom were young families with school-aged children. As a result, growth pressures on our K-12 education system were unprecedented and we knew we needed to set aggressive targets to address the need.
At every step along the way, we trusted our department staff when they told us that they could meet these targets. We admit we pushed these dedicated public servants to the limit in an effort to deliver the most ambitious school build in Canadian history and while the program certainly wasn’t perfect, we were all working with the best interests of Alberta families in mind.”
