“Today, our Caucus is proud to recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Today is an important day to acknowledge the efforts made to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination and to increase our efforts. While we have made great strides in eliminating racism in Alberta, we have so much more work to do.
This year’s theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is racial profiling and incitement to hatred. Our PC caucus continues our commitment to ending racial profiling, particularly when it comes to the act of police carding. Police carding – or the act of IDing community members solely based on their race or socio-economic background, is against our fundamental rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
When it comes to this important issue, there are no party colours and we are committed to working with all members in the Legislature to eliminate racism. We are proud to protect the rights and freedoms of marginalized Albertans today and every day.”
