“Our caucus is proud to launch the ENGAGE initiative as a way to start a meaningful conversation with Albertans about the things that matter most to them,” said Interim Leader and MLA for Calgary-Hays Ric McIver. “The ideas presented in the document will serve as a jumping-off point for discussion and the feedback we receive will ultimately inform the development of policies and positions that truly reflect the realities of life in Alberta.”
ENGAGE articulates the Progressive Conservatives Caucus’ vision for Alberta, as it relates to individual policy areas. Each section includes an assessment of where previous governments succeeded and where they fell short, and provides a number of ideas and suggestions for how to move forward. Albertans are invited to provide their feedback and participate in the discussion by visiting www.abpcmla.ca/engage.
“We’re also challenging the Alberta government to find $4 billion in savings over two years, without impacting front-line services,” said McIver. “Alberta enjoys the most talented, knowledgeable and innovative public service in Canada and we know that once empowered, they will be up to the task.”
In addition to The $4 Billion Challenge, the Progressive Conservatives are also calling on the NDP government to immediately implement the following recommendations: establish a debt repayment plan, create a savings plan that can withstand all economic conditions, establish practices that require all operating expenses to be funded through revenue and not debt, and conduct an audit of all provincial assets and liquidate those that have become obsolete or underutilized.
“Albertans have told us they want constructive solutions to the challenges we face,” said McIver. “We hope that, through ENGAGE, our ideas will spark discussion amongst Albertans on how to approach these issues and improve the way government operates. We also hope that this initiative encourages people to get involved in policy development and to take an active role in shaping Alberta’s future.”
