“Today, the Legislative Assembly took a moment to mark Yom Hashoah and to pay homage to the more than 6 million Jews brutally slaughtered by Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Included in this gruesome figure are the 13,000 that were killed during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, when in April 1943, those living in the Ghetto bravely resisted Nazi attempts to transport them to their deaths in the Treblinka concentration camp. This act of defiance was the single largest Jewish revolt during World War II and exemplifies the bravery with which every Jewish man, woman and child faced the Holocaust.
At sundown on Sunday evening, we will stand in solidarity with Jewish communities across Alberta and the globe as they remember all who perished at the hands of such evil. Let us renew our vow to never again stand idly by as such crimes are perpetrated against an entire people.”
