“We join with all Canadians today to acknowledge and thank our men and women in uniform, past and present, for their service. We live in a free and democratic society today because of the sacrifices they have made throughout history, from Vimy Ridge to Normandy, Kigali to Kandahar. To the many who have given their lives in service to our country, and the many more who came home with visible and invisible wounds, you have our eternal gratitude.
Over the years, Canada has earned a reputation as a fierce defender of human rights, democracy and freedom – always willing to answer the call of those in need. Here at home, our armed forces step up time and time again to help in times of emergency and disaster. Most recently, Canada’s men and women in uniform provided invaluable assistance as wildfires raged in the Fort McMurray region. I have no doubt that because of these efforts, homes and businesses were saved that would have otherwise been lost to the flames.
On behalf of the Progressive Conservative caucus, we humbly thank all those who serve and have served our country with such bravery and honour. Lest we forget.”
