“This government has finally decided to listen to the concerns of the PDD community and hit the brakes on a policy that would not have treated our most vulnerable as the unique members of our community that they are. This caused a great deal of concern among those who work and live with someone living with a developmental disability. I was proud to hear these concerns and raise these questions to the Minister of Human Services in the Legislature last week.
While this is a good first step, there is still much work to be done on this critical file and I will continue to work hard to hold the Minister accountable to the PDD community. This government needs to do a better job of consulting. We will be following these consultations closely to make sure that the resulting policies reflect what is best for those who rely on these services. It is essential that government take the time needed to get this done properly. The Progressive Conservative caucus will continue to work closely with the PDD community and stakeholders to make sure that Albertans that are impacted by a developmental disability are given the respect, support and dignity that they deserve.”
